Router Bypass Instructions
There is a piece of equipment that was installed on your roof. A line was run from that equipment into your house and connects to your router, allowing you to create a wireless network. If you want to test your connection by bypassing the router and your wireless connections, you can hardline your computer directly to the internet by following these steps:
- Go to your router. On the back of your router, there is a WAN port or Internet port. The WAN/Internet port is where the outside equipment connects to the router.
- After finding the WAN/Internet port on the back of your router, disconnect the Ethernet cable that is plugged into that slot.
- Connect the end of the cable that was just disconnected from the router directly into the Ethernet port on your computer.
- The router has now been bypassed, and the computer has a direct connection to the internet.
To test to see if hardlining to the internet was successful, open a new session in your browser of choice or test the activity that was previously having problems.
NOTE: Some computers do not automatically recognize the hardline connection. Disabling the Wi-Fi capability on the computer may be necessary. To do this, please consult your computer’s user manual.
